Martha Roebuck is from Norfolk, VA, and actually I first asked her to come in the studio to help me as I was translating songs for the Verdun record into Vietnamese. She would record the songs, and I was going to have them translated. But as soon as she started singing, I realized that she has a special gift, so we left most of it in English, with Martha’s voice. She is also so patient. You would not believe how many sets of lyrics we went through as we recording Samurai and many other songs, before we hit on the ones we liked.
Her formal bio would say Martha Roebuck is a singer, songwriter, and guitarist who has performed in various bands in the Hampton Roads region. She released three CDs with Falstaff,
a southern Virginia band. Since then she has performed solo and in different musical configurations with her husband Shea. Her vocal style hints at her mother’s operatic background, but has diverged toward more mainstream styles.
