Chau Nguyen is a master of Vietnamese traditional instruments, and we have had a great time mixing the dan tranh with the guitar, bass, and drums. For people who are not familiar with it, the dan tranh is like a Japanese koto. It sits on a stand like a piano and is played a bit like a harp.
His formal bio would say Chau Nguyen is a music professor from the National Conservatory of Music in Saigon, Vietnam. He composes for several Vietnamese traditional musical instruments, including the 16-string zither, monostring zither, lutes, and two-string fiddle. In 1990, he founded the Lac Hong Vietnamese Performing Arts Group in Orange County, CA, and performs throughout the U.S. and abroad.
