Jeff Phelps

Jeff Phelps is a great cellist and also a great person to work with, and perhaps the most patient human being ever. When we recorded the video of West Pier, we were out at the beach and the crew had forgotten to bring chairs for the musicians to sit on. So Jeff raced back home and picked them up, and got a big scrape in his car on the way. Then, the next day, we were recording Monaco, and Shea accidentally boinked his electric bass into Jeff’s zillion-dollar cello. And Jeff said, “don’t worry, it can all be repaired,” but I’m not sure what he was really thinking.

His formal bio would say he is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music, earning degrees in both cello performance and orchestral conducting. Jeff performs with the Virginia Symphony, the Norfolk Chamber Consort, and myriad chamber music groups. Jeff is Instrumental Music Department Chair at the Governor’s School for the Arts in Norfolk, VA.
